Decatur Sponsors Indiana Law Enforcement Training

Decatur, IL – Decatur Electronics sponsored a day of training for Indiana law enforcement officers last week, donating professional law enforcement training in Verbal Judo and speed radar operation.

Working in partnership with the Pendleton Police Department, Decatur brought in two professional trainers with more than 45 combined years of experience in law enforcement. They instructed more than 30 officers from 25 various Indiana agencies during the daylong event.

Jim Creson, a retired sergeant from Tupelo, Mississippi, presented on Verbal Judo. Kevin Morrison, a trainer with the Institute of Police Technology and Management and the IACP’s radar lab for more than 10 years, has trained officers in more than 40 states and five countries and presented on radar and video operation.

“Captain Sidwell and Chief Farrer of the Pendleton Police Department illustrated their commitment to their community and area departments and officers by making this event possible,” said Matt McClure, Regional Sales Manager for DEI. The Pendleton PD invited neighboring agencies within 90 miles to attend the day’s free workshops.

Pendleton High School donated its time and facilities to host the event. Jake Tolbert, Marketing and Communication Specialist for Decatur, took care of logistics and called the facility and the Pendleton PD involvement “picture perfect.”

“We couldn’t have had a better venue,” Tolbert said. “Their facilities are top notch. They bent over backwards to accommodate us. We’re planning to hold more events like this around the nation and hope to involve local organizations based on the success here in Pendleton.”

Decatur Electronics has been making traffic radar for over 50 years, having manufactured the first radar for law enforcement in 1955. The company produces the Genesis line of police radar, the OnSite speed trailer line and the Shadow 800 digital video system.
