N.J. officer shot stopping robbery

Newsday

NEW YORK — A Bergenfield police officer is in stable condition after he was shot at point-blank range trying to break up a robbery in the Bahamas.

A colleague tells WNBC-TV in New York John Casper was on vacation and walking with three friends in Nassau when they saw a robbery in progress.

The friend says the 49-year-old confronted the suspect and a second suspect shot Casper in the chest Wednesday night.

There’s no word on any arrests.
