As you remember these fallen officers, take comfort in recalling that they dedicated their lives to the same principles of honor, duty and courage that brought you to the badge. Such a life is truly rich. Take strength in knowing that when an officer falls, our resolve to serve those in need is not diminished. Our dedication to protecting those in danger is not weakened. Our commitment to remembering those with whom we shared the badge does not fade.

Officer Down: Deputy Sheriff Antonio (Tony) Diaz

Officer Down: Deputy Sheriff Antonio Diaz - [Woodland, California]


 

Age: 37

Cause of Death: Gunfire

Deputy Deputy Tony Diaz was shot and killed while making a traffic stop near the intersection of County Road 6 and County Road 99W at approximately 9:30 pm. The suspect opened fire on Deputy Diaz, striking him in the shoulder.

Despite the wound, Deputy Diaz was able to call for assistance. He was flown to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries..

The suspect, who fled on foot after abandoning his infant in his car, was apprehended a short time later.

The driver of the truck has been charged with two counts of misdemeanor death by vehicle and one count of exceeding the safe speed.

 


Yolo deputy killed; person taken into custody

YOLO COUNTY, Calif — A person has been taken into custody in connection to the shooting of a Yolo County Sheriff's deputy, a sheriff's dispatcher confirmed at 8:15 a.m.

It is not yet known whether it is the accused gunman, Marco Antonio Topete.

Dozens of law enforcement officers are swarming the Dunnigan area in search of a man suspected of fatally shooting Deputy Jose Antonio Diaz, 37, of Woodland.
